An accident in molten silver, turned into something worth keeping.
These one-of-a-kind sterling silver stud earrings began as a spill while I was sand casting in my Sellicks Beach studio.
Rather than melting the silver back down, I was drawn to the tiny folds, ripples and organic texture created as the molten silver cooled. I selected two pieces from the spill, shaped and refined them by hand, then soldered on sterling silver posts and polished them while retaining all that wonderful accidental texture.
The result is an intentionally mismatched pair of small sculptural studs — related, but not identical.
Because their forms were created spontaneously by molten silver, there will never be another pair exactly like them.
