Humpback whales are gentle giants, and the ones I swam with off K'gari in 2024 (Megaptera novaeangliae) were SO curious. They rolled around me and showed their bellies, almost close enough to touch. I came home and started painting straight away.
Anna is very special to me. I had been unwell for many months, with constant tremors. This was the first piece I could paint after the tremors eased and I could control my brush again.
I named her after Anna Atkins, the botanist who pioneered cyanotype in science, and after a dear friend who always makes me feel supported.
This is the one-of-a-kind original, the one and only. Limited edition prints of Anna are also in my shop. For whale lovers, collectors of original art, or a gift that really means something.

Care
Cyanotype is archival and can last for centuries. Keep it out of direct sunlight. UV-protective glass is best, but not essential. If the blue ever fades a little, put the artwork somewhere dark overnight and it will recover.
