This unique bag features fabric (named Melba) by Leesa Chandler, with stylised waratahs and gum blossoms in teal and dark pink, with silver highlights throughout. The fabric is reminiscent of the art deco style. This unique bag corrals the yarn so it doesn’t run away, so is great for knitters and crocheters. A friend gave one of these bags to her mother, a knitter, who said it was too good to be only for yarn, and promptly used it as her handbag. So the bag is a useful tote, handbag, and knitting or crochet bag. The fabric squares do not make a regular rectangular bag, but a more three-dimensional shape. It rises to peaks where the handles are attached. Ties hold the top closed. The bag and ties are quilted for strength and softness. The lining is ‘grunge teal’.
The bag is made from cotton (outer and lining, wadding and thread) so washing is easy in cold water and will not add to the plastic plague of our time. Dry in the shade if possible as using a hot dryer will lead to a bit of shrinking on the first wash and may reduce the life of the silvering.
The price you pay, minus packing and shipping, will be donated to WIRES, the Australian Wildlife Rescue Association.
The bag is not regular, but effectively measures about 38 x 55 cm. It easily fits eight balls of velour yarn with space to spare (see photographs).
The handles are 53 x 3.5 cm and the ties are 31 cm long, to allow for variation in the volume of the contents.
