Eucalypt leaves, fruit and twigs were laid on cotton calico, then boiled with (environmentally friendly) rust and vinegar, to dye the fabric for this bag. The bag is smaller than a ‘green’ shopping bag, but great for carrying a present and other goodies, a packed lunch for 2 and a tablet, or craft supplies.
The front panel features a branchlet, with hand sewing to highlight the leaves and stems. The back and sides feature multiple twigs, sprigs and gum nuts, with some highlighted by free-motion sewing with a machine. The thread is multicoloured, and cotton, and is also used to decorate the straps. The lining is cream and textured, and I think it is linen (but it may be cotton). The outsides are attached to a thin synthetic wadding for strength and protection of the contents.
The bag can be washed in cold water and dried in the shade.
Measurements: 28 x 32 x 6.5 cm and the straps are 49 x 4 cm.
