Description
Blue sky with an iconic red gum - a typical bush scene around Sydney, where I grew up.
Technique: The sky is made from many painted pieces of fabric quilted together to provide the impression of the wind, with some white clouds painted on. Then the red gum, rusty batik fabric, and the foreground were appliquéd, and quilted. Embroidery was added to give the semblance of grasses, rocks and lichen. Finally the leaves of the tree were painted using a sponge. A touch of gold was added to highlight trunk of the tree.
Details: There is a rod pocket on the back for hanging, or add your own. As the paint is acrylic, but not fabric paint, it can be ironed, and wiped with a damp cloth, but it is preferable to not wash it.
The pieces are all backed with a special surface so the raw edges will not fray.
The hanging is 59 x 41 cm.
