These earrings feature hand-folded origami kite-shaped diamond pieces created from Japanese Yuzen Chiyogami. The paper’s striking design has a rich red base overlain with traditional floral and botanical motifs – vibrant blossoms and contrasting black branches.
To create each paper piece, I measure and cut from a larger sheet of paper, and fold into the final form. Small dots of craft adhesive are applied if needed for reinforcement. I have applied a light coat of lacquer to retain the texture of the paper and provide light surface protection.
Hung from 20mm 16K gold plated over brass thin hoops, I’ve added tiny black glass bugle beads to compliment the bold colours of the paper. The overall drop length (top to bottom) is 5cm.
Very lightweight. Lightly lacquered, but avoid getting wet. They are pieces of wearable art – tiny imperfections are part of the look. Designed and constructed by me.
