An earring collection (for pierced ears) comprising 4 pairs showcasing Japan’s foliage of the seasons. I have used Washi Chiyogami “Japanese Four Seasons” – colour rich paper with floral and foliage motifs overlaying traditional and modern geometric patterns. This collection is built around an Origami geometrical focal piece and includes longer boho style statement earrings with bead drops to a more compact design – each an individual mini piece of art.
To create each paper piece, I measure and cut from a larger sheet of paper, and fold into the final interlocking model. I have applied just a light coat of finishing lacquer to retaining some of natural feel and texture of the paper, and provide light surface protection. I have added glass beads that complement both the paper and season.
These are very lightweight and please avoid getting wet. With a little care and occasional wear, your earrings can remain beautiful companions for years to come.
SPRING - Cherry blossom. The paper has an earthy colour base of red-brown, green and burgundy, overlain with cherry, pink and white florals. Teamed with translucent burgundy glass beads, gold-toned findings and stainless steel ball stud earrings posts and butterfly backs. Overall drop length is 5cm
SUMMER – Hydrangea flowers
The paper is bright with the blue and purple blooms of the hydrangea which thrive during Japan’s rainy season. Blue glass bugle beads drop beneath the Origami tile. I have used gold-toned findings and stainless steel ball stud earrings posts and butterfly backs. Overall drop length is 6cm
AUTUMN - Autumn leaves
Leaves turn vibrant shades of gold, bronze, yellow, orange and red during Autumn. Such a vibrant colour pallet – I have added a single amber glass bicone bead to each earring to echo the tones of the paper. The overall drop is 4.5cm with 18k gold plated stainless steel round leverbacks, and gold-toned findings.
WINTER – Plum blossom
Marking the end of the winter freeze, most plum blossoms have five rounded petals and range in colour from white to blush pink to dark crimson. I have chosen opaque black glass bicone beads to add contrast to the paper’s rich and slightly exotic palette – purple, deep green, orange and gold – with the addition of a tiny dangling blush pink translucent glass bead. Hanging from 304 gold-toned stainless steel French earring hooks, the overall drop is 4cm.
Four designs, created to be enjoyed together and sold as a complete set.
