These statement earrings centre around hand-folded traditional origami seed envelopes, interlocked to create a striking geometric diamond.
The pieces have been created using Japanese Yuzen Chiyogami which is a thick, fibrous paper. Delicate floral motifs in white, pink, blue and green with sprays of gold sit against a vibrant red background giving these earrings a bright, garden-inspired feel.
To create each paper piece, I measure and cut from a larger sheet of paper, and fold into the final interlocking model.
I have applied a very light coat of lacquer to retain the texture of the paper, while adding a little strength and surface protection.
Hung from 30mm gold-plated brass hoops, I’ve added just a few tiny black glass bugle beads to provide a contrast against the colourful paper.
Very lightweight and full of colour – pure joy. The overall drop length (top to bottom) is 6cm.
