PERSONALISE D BASKET RESERVED FOR AZARIA ~ An Australian Celestial Desert Basket, to be named by Azaria for Mum

This unique, one of a kind, intricate healing basket is handwoven using hundreds of cured long leaf pine needles and different colours of yellow, orange and red iron ochre sinew - threads matching the colours found in the Australian Outback. Woven in the heart of this basket is a 2cm-3cm choral fossil stone; the soft skeletal remains preserved in sediment, an impression of a living organism once found on Earth millions of years ago.

An Australian Celestial Desert Basket, which ties into the Earth (the desert), sky (the four winds), and sea (the fossil).

In the middle of your basket, I started stitching with a colour that relates the stone, to form a connection with the heart of the basket – a Native American ideology. Weaving up and outwards, the story changes to the darker iron ochre tones found in the Australia desert.

I have woven four of my handmade porcelain frangipani leaf beads, on the north, south, east and west walls of your basket - the four winds, and held in place by four amber beads. The porcelain beads are made using the leaves from our garden and one of the whitest porcelain clays made in Australia, Southern Ice.

The last two loose sculptural laps of wrapping around the basket are in two colours: an iron desert red to match the sinew used for the walls of the basket, and for a bit of contrast to the ochre tones, a final lap wrapped in a soft green colour, to represent the spin effects grasses peppering the rich red Australian desert landscape.

The dimensions of this basket is approximately ~6 cm tall x ~24 cm diameter.

~ ~ ~ THE TIMEFRAME ~ ~ ~

It took me 6 hours to complete the centre of your basket.
Then, 2 hours to complete the first lap of ochre wrapping.
Followed by another 2 hours to do the beading in the centre.
14 hours is how long I spent weaving the walls.
2 hours to wax and seal the basket.
3 hours to complete the loose lap of red iron ochre wrapping.
1 hour to do the beading of the four porcelain leaf breads.
6 hours to complete the loose lap of green grass wrapping and to any final detailing to complete the basket.
In total = 36 hours to weave your special basket.
