Introducing Staceysknitwits, where every hand-knitted creation is infused with love and an eye for enduring quality. From her home in the scenic Yarra Valley, Melbourne, Stacey crafts exceptional knitwear, each piece a testament to the skills passed down by her mother and refined over a lifetime.
This blog dives deep into the heart of Stacey's creative process, her journey back to a cherished childhood craft, and the deep connections she fosters within the knitting community.
Tell us about your creations and your handmade process.
I hand knit all of my creations from our home in the Yarra Valley. I rediscovered my love of knitting about a dozen years ago. My niece was knitting (as an 8 year old) and I found myself sitting with her picking up needles showing her that I knew how to knit also. From that day onwards, I haven't been able to stop myself from knitting.
What is your inspiration or where do you find inspiration?
I love knitting every day, and look to instagram for ideas and new patterns. The knitting community is a caring sharing community, and we never see each other as competition.
When fellow knitters create new patterns, they often look for test knitters to test their designs out, and I've found myself doing this often. It's also a great way to up-skill and learn new knitting techniques.
Gone are the old days of just knit and purl stitches. Nowadays there are many other stitches around - leafs, acorns, lotus flowers - not just knit or purl - there are yarn overs, right twist, left twist.. The options are endless.
Where did you learn your craft?
As a young girl with 2 older sisters, our mother taught us to knit. These skills have stayed with me.
Why is handmade artistry so important to you?
Handmade goods go the distance. The quality, love and attention in every piece is beyond words.
