A stylish one-of-a-kind handbag made from two pre-loved garments — a pair of black denim jeans and a men's black and white check shirt.
Designed and sewn by Katie in her home studio in the Sutherland Shire, NSW, this bag is a great example of how pre-loved clothing can be transformed into something useful, durable and completely unique.
The Details
Outside
- Made from upcycled black denim jeans
- Original front and back jeans pockets retained as design features
- The original front pocket is decorative and non-functional
- Contrasting black and white check shirt fabric incorporated into the top 3 cm of the bag
- Shirt fabric is threaded through the original denim belt loops for an added detail
Inside
- Fully lined using an upcycled men's collared shirt in a classic black and white check
- Reinforced with interfacing for added strength and structure
- Internal slip pocket made from the shirt
- Original shirt pocket retained and fully functional
Strap & Closure
- Durable black cotton webbing strap
- 18 mm gunmetal grey magnetic snap closure
Materials & Upcycling
This bag gives two pre-loved garments a completely new purpose. The exterior is made from a pair of black denim jeans, retaining some of the original features of the jeans. The lining and internal pockets are made from a men's black and white check collared shirt.
New materials used are limited to interfacing, cotton webbing, magnetic hardware, thread and the cotton label.
