This unique handmade handbag is upcycled from a pair of women's denim jeans and lined with women's summery cotton shorts. Designed and sewn by me, Katie, in my home studio in the Sutherland Shire, NSW, this bag gives pre-loved materials a second life while helping reduce textile waste.
On the outside of the bag:
- Made from an upcycled pair of light blue denim women's jeans
- The bag features both the back and front of the jeans on each side, with the main zipper and 3 silver buttons sitting next to the side seam.
- Removeable belt and tassle made from the inside fabric
Inside the bag
- Lined with fabric from a pair of pre-loved women's summery cotton shorts with a blue background and mosaic style floral print with reds, oranges and blue colours.
- Reinforced with interfacing for added strength.
- Includes two slip pockets made from the shorts fabric.
Other details
- There is a thick strap made from cotton webbing encased within the blue shorts fabric.
- Silver-tone magnetic snap closure.
Materials & Upcycling
- The denim and lining are second hand. New materials used are limited to stabilisers, metal hardware, thread and the cotton label.
- All pre-loved textiles used in this bag are washed before being sewn.
