The sleek lines; sexy architecture; milky and neutral colour schemes; heavy rounded furniture - is there anything NOT to love about the Art Deco era?? Nothing ... from an aesthetic perspective at least!
This charming suncatcher was designed around the cut-glass centrepiece, which was reclaimed from a darling old jewelry bowl. I know I know, you might be thinking now that I've committed some sort of crime against beautiful things, but sadly that little bowl had sat on shelves unloved for many years and now it's absolutely stunning as the focal point for this suncatcher (which is the thing I love most about reclaiming glass - it lives a second life it wouldn't have had otherwise).
I've used some of my absolute favourite vintage glasses in this piece to really enhance that Deco feel: the mint green is over 100 years old as is the deep purple. The vintage milky white ties it all together, and as a whole this piece really pays homage to the greatest period in design.
This truly one of a kind suncatcher measures approximately 14cm at its widest point and 9cm in height. As you can see from the pictures, the different widths and textures in glasses used make for a lovely yet subtle 3D effect. All of my designs are drawn by hand with strength and beauty in mind equally. It's strung with a leather hanger, and is ready to pop in a window sill or sling over a hook or frame in your cosy spot.
Fun Fact: some glass of the Art Deco era (beginning 1920's) contained small amounts of uranium oxide which glowed under UV light. This type of glass is typically a bright green colour, and is safe to have in your home (I have some myself) though personally, I wouldn't recommend eating or drinking from it too often.
