Description
I'm incredibly lucky to live in an area that is so rich in wildlife and bush habitat - it's hard NOT to feel inspired to create amongst it!
This stunning piece was created for a local art exhibition, and I've titled it Locals, as it incorporates the shed from a local Australian Diamond Python as well as tones and textures from the area.
Measuring 21cm x 30cm, I've used a variety of vintage glasses in muted bush colours, reflecting the changes in season and colours of leaves, while the oxidised and twisted lead that frame it represent the leaves that curl as they brown and naturally fall to the bush floor. Slight differences in the thickness of glasses provide a subtle texture and movement in the piece as well as a natural 3D effect, with the snake standing out from the branch as it would in the wild.
This panel looks beautiful with or without back light, and is the perfect conversation piece with its unusual materials.
Fun Fact: While this snake shed is from a local pet, it is not uncommon for locals to find similar sheds while bushwalking (or even in some backyards). In fact, it's not unusual for me to arrive home and find that someone has kindly donated such a shed for my art and left it neatly at my front door!!
