Hand sculpted by Derek from hebel (an aerated concrete), this architectural vase shows off the contrasting hues of deep earth and flowing water, blended together with a dynamic flow. Compact and grounded, it works beautifully as a dry or wet vase, tabletop object, or standalone sculptural accent. A tactile, earthy piece that brings understated texture and colour to shelves, sideboards, or outdoor settings.
Derek hand sculpts each piece in our studio in Buderim from a block of hebel with manual tools like rasps and chisels and then carefully drills the hollow in the hebel for the test tube well. The piece then has to be hand sanded to smooth out any imperfections or tool marks. Following that he uses a colour marbling technique to colour each piece with a breath-taking pattern of colours and patterns.
