Handmade not Mass Made
Created in my Southern Highlands workshop. It’s made by precisely fitting American Walnut and White Oak and purple heart end-grain blocks to create a pattern that stands out on any bench-top.
Why I build them this way:
• End-grain is better for your knives: Instead of cutting across the wood grain,
your knife edge goes between the fibres. It keeps your blades sharper for much longer and stops the board from getting deep, ugly scars.
• Built to last: I use Titebond III glue because it’s the gold standard for food
safety and water resistance. It’s a solid, heavy board (3.4 cm thick) that won’t slide around while you’re working.
• Natural Finish: I’ve finished this with food-grade mineral oil and a local
beeswax polish. No stains or chemicals—just the natural colour of the timber.
The Details:
• Timber: Walnut, Oak and purpleheart.
• Care: I’ll include a care sheet, so you know how to keep the timber
looking good for years.
