About Blue Dragonfly Art by Kay Whitmarsh

I am Kay Whitmarsh, an artist living and working in Adelaide’s southern suburbs on the edge of the Fleurieu Peninsula. Living by the sea for many years has been a great inspiration. Much of my work inspired by my love of the natural environment.

Working predominantly with glass and I also have a strong interest in mosaics, printmaking, paper making, and fabric crafts. I regularly use these mediums for different projects.

Currently I have several outlets around Adelaide which sell my unique creations. I also participate in joint and individual exhibitions and teach mosaic workshops. Recently I was a lead artist in the McLaren Vale mosaic project. I worked with local community groups to construct this amazing piece of community art, now found in the Main St of Mclaren Vale.

I have a Diploma in commercial art and I am a qualified bookbinder and finisher. By teaching I can share my skills. This began when I was actively involved in various art and craft projects whilst living on South Australia’s West Coast. My passion as an artist has continued since moving to the Fleurieu Peninsula. This has allowed me to expand into other mediums like fused glass. I continue sharing my skills through teaching mosaic workshops

My favourite kind of art is inspired by nature, especially Australian Flora and Fauna. I am always experimenting and teaching myself new skills and creating new designs. Glass is an amazing medium to work with as you are never quite sure of the exact result until you take each piece out of the kiln. The adds to my philosophy of creating unique and individual pieces, with the hope that they can add a little beauty to your day.
