A unique handmade Frida soft doll. Frida stands approx 30cm high. I have created the pattern, cut all parts out from an old drop sheet. Each piece has been sewn together, stuffed with 'Hobby Fill', hand stitched together. Her hair and face have been painted in acrylic paint. She has beads and earrings sewn on. Her clothes are made from scraps of fabric. This Frida has a dress made from an old vintage curtain. Her shawl is double sided and is lined with a piece of hand embroidery from a vintage tea towel. Her hair is black plaited felt. 3 sweet pompoms top her hair. These are more pink than the photo shows. Sewn into her hands is a 4cm handmade airdry clay bird with a copper leaf beak

Frida Kahlo ; born Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y Calderón; 6 July 1907 – 13 July 1954) was a Mexican painter known for her many portraits, self-portraits, and works inspired by the nature and artifacts of Mexico. Inspired by the country's popular culture, she employed a naïve folk art style to explore questions of identity, postcolonialism, gender, class, and race in Mexican society.[1] Her paintings often had strong autobiographical elements and mixed realism with fantasy. In addition to belonging to the post-revolutionary Mexicayotl movement, which sought to define a Mexican identity, Kahlo has been described as a surrealist or magical realist.[2]

Born to a German father and a mestiza mother, Kahlo spent most of her childhood and adult life at La Casa Azul, her family home in Coyoacán, now publicly accessible as the Frida Kahlo Museum. Although she was disabled by polio as a child, Kahlo had been a promising student headed for medical school until a traffic accident at age eighteen, which caused her lifelong pain and medical problems. During her recovery, she returned to her childhood hobby of art with the idea of becoming an artist

This Frida is the first of 10 that I have created. I will slowly be listing the others for sale. :)

MPORTANT: Please note that Frida is NOT a toy, rather an 'art doll' Due to her hand painted features she cannot be put into a washing machine..she will not withstand any sort of play by a child. Also please note it does contain small parts and therefore not suitable for young children.
