'Autumn Stroll' is an original one off small collage artwork. If you would like to see more from this series please contact me.
The Postcards from Japan series is a collection of works created on watercolour paper using personal photographs and textiles, inspired by a journey through this beautiful country. A country where tradition and spirituality seem to coexist in a contemporary world of bright lights and high tech. When visiting religious sites and historic areas it was exciting to see young women elegantly dressed in kimono and obi with their hair beautifully styled and decorated in flowers, such colour and beauty! Then again, it was also exciting to see the bright lights and signage of Tokyo Shibuya and Shinjuku. The bright lights and buzz were a total contrast to the traditional Japanese culture and aesthetic. It was this juxtaposition that inspired these works. This young Maiko woman was wandering in the Kiyomizu-dera area of Kyoto - what a fabulous colour combo, pink, red and bright green!
Title: Autumn Stroll
Image: 11cm x 18cm
Presentation: Unframed - mounted on A4 size (21cm x 29.7cm) off white conservation mount board. The art work is first mounted on 0.5cm conservation foam core and then adhered to A4 conservation mount board which creates a lovely floating affect.
Framing:
Ideally framed in a simple box frame alongside 1 or more works from the same series.
Technique:
Honouring the tradition of the Japanese attention to detail, these photographic and textile collage works have been intricately embellished throughout with metallic and coloured thread and glass like lacquer detail. Please note, the lacquer detail can sometimes appear in photos as white spots in the work, it is simply the lacquer reflecting light and doesn't appear as white in reality.
All photographs have been printed on Epson matte archival paper using Epson Dura Brite Ultra fade resistant ink. Images have been Photoshop manipulated, printed, cut and integrated with textiles. All materials have been adhered to watercolour paper using acid free adhesives, including the metallic and coloured threads. This is a technique I developed in the early days of experimentation to add beauty and sparkle to the work. The result is a flat textural artwork similar in appearance to a painting, while exhibiting the unique and exquisite qualities of textiles layered with photographs!
Shipping: The artwork will be shipped in an art sleeve and sent via Australia Post Express Post.
