A small painting of a Ulysses butterfly (Papilio ulysses) in black and iridescent blue watercolour. As the light shifts, the reflective, shimmering qualities of the blue paint can be seen. This tiny painting mimics the look of taxidermied butterflies and makes a great decoration for small spaces or gift for an animal lover.
Ulysses butterflies are found throughout northeastern Australia and other nearby island nations, and are often seen as dramatic flashes of blue as they fly through their forest habitats. Interestingly, the blue of this butterfly's wings contains no actual blue pigment; we perceive the colour as blue due to the way the structure of the wing scales manipulate the reflection of light.
This artwork is 5 x 5 cm. Painted on 300gsm watercolour paper, signed and dated on the back.
This painting is made to order, and as such, will vary slightly for each buyer. Please allow up to one week for me to have your painting created and shipped.
