This piece is a reproduction of a brooch that was worn, and lost, in a hamlet called Laurenshof in medieval Zeeland. It may have attached to the outside of an outfit, or used to secure a shawl, scarf or collar.
The hand-carved profile gives the basic circle shape a lively elegance that catches the eye today just as it did centuries ago.
The piece is a lost wax casting in jewellery-grade ancient bronze (copper and tin only), from a hand-carved master mould. We create our masters based on detailed study of archaeological items, then cast and hand-finish each piece in Sydney.
The overall dimensions are 30 x 30 x 3mm.
Bronze jewellery can be left to develop a natural patina with use, or polished regularly to retain the shine of a new piece.
