'The outback' inspired scarf came about with my subconscious channeling Alice Springs without even realizing that I was in the beginning. I have visited the Beanie festival on a few occasions and this year, the final year, I didn't go. Before this event started, I had chosen my colours and started the weave on my rigid heddle loom. Then I realized when the Beanie festival started where my inspiration had come from.
The use of colours and different textures in these different handspun wools really captures the landscape of the outback. Being able to keep the weave quite simple to let the yarns sing on their own! I used my fringe twister to add even more texture to the ends of this scarf.
This scarf has more of a story than any other woven item I've made and brings so many fabulous memories to me personally. How special would this distinctive one-off scarf be to own or gift to someone. Maybe reminiscing a memory for yourselves, a talking point being worn and keeping you warm.
