The circular Ink Agate cabochon, set in a stainless steel bracelet finding, is made from a genuine Australian Agate found on one of our family fossicking trips around Australia. This particular agate is unique to Agate Creek in Far North Queensland.
The agate was cut and ground into a circle, then put through three tumbling stages, 620 grit, 1200 grit and then Tin Oxide to polish. The opaque white of this particular pink agate variety is relatively soft in comparison to the very hard stone that agate is known to be, if tumbled too long it can degrade. Agates are known to be one of the hardest of stones in lapidary, this agate isn't.
The band is made of stainless steel and the cabochon has been glued into the setting using Araldite. Araldite is a heavy-duty, two-part epoxy glue used for permanent bonding on metal, wood, masonry, ceramics, glass, and most plastics. It requires mixing a resin and a hardener to trigger a curing chemical reaction that creates a rigid, high-strength, water-resistant bond.
