Inspired by the beautiful colours of the lake as the sun begins to set, this collection captures the interplay of colour, light and movement. I wanted to explore the way watercolour flows and blends naturally across the paper, creating soft washes of colour and unexpected details.
Using a loose, expressive approach, I allowed the watercolour to move freely, building layers of blue, sunset pinks, coral and soft greens. Delicate pen details, playful patterns, touches of mixed-media acrylic paint and golden brushstrokes add depth and interest, with some designs also featuring botanical elements.
My Creative Process
Each bookmark begins as part of an original abstract painting, created on a single sheet of 200gsm watercolour paper using watercolour and pen. I allow the watercolour to move and blend naturally across the page, building layers of colour before adding expressive pen details, acrylic paint accents and delicate touches of gold.
Rather than painting each piece individually, I allow the artwork to develop freely across the page before carefully cutting it into individual bookmarks.
Each bookmark is then backed with book pages and finished with painted navy stripes, giving it extra strength and a beautiful, distinctive finish. A protective seal is applied to help prevent the colours from running if the bookmark gets wet.
Because these bookmarks are created from original abstract paintings, no two are ever exactly alike. While your bookmark will feature the same beautiful colour palette and expressive style shown in the photographs, the composition will vary slightly, making your bookmark a truly one-of-a-kind piece of original art.
