I've made these stunning earrings using Mokume Gane. Originally, it was a centuries-old Japanese metalworking technique that translated to “wood-grained metal”.
It has been adapted to polymer clay and the result is amazing and original every time.
I take thin layers of clay paced on top of each other and use different tools to make marks and indents through them. Then I shave strips off the block of clay and lay them onto a piece of pre-rolled backing clay. I smooth the piece with the shavings by using a texture roller then cut the earring shapes. They are then baked, sanded and a top coat applied to add shine.
The shaped pieces are then finished into earrings by carefully choosing the right findings( the joining and silver/gold accent pieces and hook or stud).
Each pair is unique and I could never make a duplicate even if I wanted to. The making process is unique every time.
I use to quality ear wires and findings but if you have any sensitivities please ask and I can replace his with sterling silver or rolled gold for a small fee.
If you have any questions please reach out.
The photos show the size and dimensions.
I work out of a tiny studio in Hobart, Tasmania and every piece is handmade by me. Thanks for stopping by. Have a great day,
Cate
