This skirt was made a part of an Upcycle exhibition. It features several vintage Australiana tapestries plus Australian souvenir tea towels.
It is maxi floor length, 45 inches (115cm) from waist to floor and has three tiers, each about 17 - 18 inches (44cm) that have bias hem made from linen tea towels. The three tiers are gathered and attached to cotton calico base.
The 4 inch (10cm) waistband is 28.5 inches (72.5 cm) around and has double belt loops supported a fabric belt with a vintage buckle. There are also side pockets.
This is a heavy duty skirt that would definitely attract attention. The tapestries are beautiful, and several feature Australian landscapes and significant cottages. Their descriptions have been hand embroidered replicated; Grazing by the Farmhouse, Guardians of the Valley and Kew Cottage.
There’s also tea towels from Timbertown, Norfolk Island, Western Australia and Adelaide.
