Meet The Chocolate Tote, a generously sized, hand-crocheted shoulder bag in a rich chocolate brown.
This is a bag designed to be beautiful and genuinely useful. At approximately 48cm across, there’s plenty of room for everything you need for a day out, shopping, lunch with friends or travelling, while the long handles give it an easy, relaxed shoulder drop.
I handcrafted the tote using 2mm hollow cotton cord, chosen because it creates wonderful stitch definition and gives the finished bag structure without making it overly rigid. The rich chocolate colour and textured crochet give it a beautifully natural, understated look.
Handmade process
The entire bag body has been crocheted by hand. I modified the original construction slightly by creating the base with a foundation chain, rather than a traditional starting chain, to give this hardworking part of the bag additional strength.
Once the crochet was complete, I carefully finished and lined the bag by hand. The interior features a soft, chocolate-toned fabric lining, while the exterior is finished with natural coconut button details, a tassel and the signature Rubelle label.
It’s these finishing details that take a crocheted bag from a handmade project to something designed to be carried and enjoyed.

A genuinely useful tote
The Chocolate Tote has plenty of room for everyday essentials and more. Its generous proportions make it ideal as an everyday handbag, shopping or market tote, travel companion or relaxed weekend bag.
The 32cm handle drop means it sits comfortably over the shoulder, including over a jacket or knitwear, while the soft crochet construction allows the bag to move naturally with you.

As each bag is individually handcrafted, slight variations are part of its character and make every piece unique. Please allow additional time for made-to-order pieces to be created.
Care
To keep your Chocolate Tote looking its best, spot clean whenever possible using a soft cloth, cool water and a small amount of mild detergent.
For more substantial cleaning, gently hand wash the crochet using cool water and mild detergent, taking care around the lining, decorative details and Rubelle hardware. Do not bleach, wring or tumble dry.
Reshape while damp and allow to dry naturally, preferably lying flat and away from direct sunlight or heat.
When not in use, store the bag resting flat or lightly filled to help maintain its shape rather than hanging it by the handles for extended periods.

The Chocolate Tote has been handcrafted by Rubelle using a pattern by MagicCrochetVerse.
I loved working with this design, particularly its texture, proportions and beautiful relaxed shape. I made a few considered changes during construction and added my own choice of materials, lining and finishing details to create this particular Rubelle interpretation.
