This kit is based on (but a slightly modified version) of a traditional Japanese Paper Making kit that I love and have been using for many years. The mould (frame) I have repurposed from a second hand vintage picture frame (note it may have some slight scuff marks, tiny scratches from age but they add to the wabi sabi nature and charm of vintage) and the “Su” mat has been made from a discarded bamboo placemat.

The approximate size of paper made with this kit will be 8.5cm x 12.5cm (slightly smaller than a standard postcard size). Great for using to collage, decorate cards / artwork, making plantable seed paper, gift tags, bookmarks etc. An enjoyable way to transform scrap waste paper into beautiful little works of art while being a true eco warrior by recycling!   

The kit includes:

Mould frame (size 12.5cm x 16.5cm)

Bamboo “Su” mat

Small handmade bamboo rolling pin (size 14cm)

Couching cloth x1

Backing boards x 4 (recycled thick sturdy cardboard)

A sheet of instructions.

Handmade book containing botanical specimens.

The botanical specimens can be used to add interesting textures to your handmade paper. They are loosely sandwiched within the blank pages of the notebook so once removed you can use pieces of the handmade papers you make to decorate the pages of the notebook. Or of course you can use the notebook for any other purpose you wish to.

The kit will come lovingly wrapped in scrap fabric which I’ve hand dyed using avocado seeds to give it a nice dusty shade of pink. A wooden enclosure button has been sewn onto the fabric. The rustic wood button was made from a native Rosella tree pruning from my garden. Wrapped beautifully ready for gift giving!
