A little taste of childhood

Some of my sweetest childhood memories are of coming home from school to find that Mum had been baking. There would often be homemade cookies waiting for us, making an ordinary afternoon feel a little bit special.

Then there were the treats Mum made for special occasions — jelly slice and vanilla slice were always extra exciting. We weren’t simply allowed to help ourselves; we could have some if there were leftovers after the event. Somehow, knowing we had to wait made those little slices feel even more special.

These smaller bakery favourites are inspired by those familiar treats and the childhood memories attached to them — the everyday joy of Mum’s home baking and the excitement of a special-occasion sweet.
