This original artwork is a hand-crafted print made by using the traditional 19th century cyanotype printmaking process.

Measurements: print is postcard size, approx 4 x 6 inches.

Your artwork will be enclosed in a clear protective premium polypropylene sleeve. 

Printed by hand on high quality archival heavy-weight watercolour paper. The print will be signed and dated on the front.

Please note: your print may differ ever so slightly from the one pictured here as each one is hand printed, making each little artwork unique.

The process involved solutions being mixed to create a photosensitive emulsion which was then brushed onto the watercolour paper. Once the paper was sufficiently dry, the botanical specimens were placed over the paper and placed into a contact printing frame. Following this was exposure to a UV light source and the development, rinsing and drying of the paper, resulting in a cyan-blue print.A brief history on the cyanotype process…Cyanotype is a photographic printing process which was discovered and developed by Sir John Herschel in 1842. It was botanist Anna Atkins who in 1843 utilised the process to document her botanical findings and published a book of her cyanotypes that same year. That book is considered to be the first book illustrated with photographic images.
