Handcrafted Plane Tree leaf plate, inspired by nature’s quiet beauty.

I’ve created this beautiful piece completely by hand, the template, a Plane Tree leaf was collected locally while enjoying quality time with my grandchildren, I couldn’t resist and had to have one to create this one of a kind piece. I wanted to showcase the leaf in all it’s beauty without destroying the delicate veins showing through, so I used a soft autumn-toned glaze of gold, green, orange, and hints of red and blue.

The clay body is white stoneware, after drying the piece very slowly for several weeks it survived the first firing in my kiln, next step, I applied a red iron oxide wash and the texture of the leaf came to life. I then applied a beautiful glaze called Sand and Sea in layers to create the Autumn tone, fired again to 1260 degrees for 16 hours.

A beautiful result, I’m so happy with this piece.
