Tell us about your creations and your handmade process.

Lovely ruffled sleeve pinafores and unisex overalls. I keep production intentionally small so I can focus on finish and fit. Selection of fabric, choice of sizes, cutting fabric, sewing, press between steps, check seams and edges as I go and then finishing off with studs for closure. Then final press.

I crochet a lot in the evening when I can sit, relax and put my feet up and just crochet away without a care in the world.

Crochet jumpers and cardigans for babies, toddlers, choosing colours and sizes, then crochet and finally, joining together and sewing off all the ends.

Tell us a bit about your journey to becoming a handmade artist.

As a young girl, I would watch my mum sew, knit and crochet. I have always loved crafts, and made my children's clothes when they were small, and my clothes for the office. Due to a health issue I made choices for a less stressful life and appreciate the many benefits of sewing and crocheting again. Sewing/crocheting with intention and purpose to bring happiness into a stressful time.

What is your inspiration or where do you find inspiration?

I am drawn to classic shapes and practical details, brought to life with soft, breathable fabrics and playful prints. Traditional techniques passed down through my family meet a clean, durable finish you can wash and wear, again and again. I also find inspiration now that two granddaughters are interested in crochet, so this has brought back some passion, to see craft now in the fourth generation.

Where did you learn your craft?

I learned to sew from my mum, a seamstress, on a Singer Treadle sewing machine. I still use her dressmaking scissors which must be around 80 years old. Mum also taught me to crochet and knit. Craft was a bit part of my mum's life, and I have continued with the same passion as she had.

Why is handmade artistry so important to you?

Handmade provides quality, comfort and care, combining time-honoured techniques, thoughtful materials and everyday durability. Handmade pieces are created slowly, carefully, and with attention to detail. There are no shortcuts or rushed production lines. Just skill, patience, and pride. Handmade pieces become family favourites and keepsakes because there is usually an emotional story behind the piece.
