Find out why Kerry started creating and why she is so passionate about the value of handmade.
Tell us about your creations and your handmade process.
Tell us a bit about your journey to becoming a handmade artist.
I have always been a bit crafty but have never thought of myself as an artist, more a crafter. I have tried many different crafts over the years but I think crochet was my first when I was 13 years old. It is the one I now have a passion for. I started doing craft markets when my eldest daughter was 1 year old, sewing and eventually added knitted and crochet items.
I stopped craft markets in 2009 and didn't like not having anything to do.
What is your inspiration or where do you find inspiration?
As a senior I love the old fashion baby sets but absolutely adore modern crochet. Browsing Instagram is a hobby and I follow many wonderful designers and crocheters. It is also a great place to get inspiration for photos and ideas for future makes.
Where did you learn your craft?
I learnt to make a granny square blanket from a neighbour when I was 13 years old, and I still have it. I also have a vague memory of going to the local church hall to learn more stitches to improve my learner skills. I also learnt to sew, cross stitch, ceramics, glass painting, knitting, stamping and have probably forgotten a lot more.
Why is handmade artistry so important to you?
I just love making things, especially with crochet, keeping the old crafts alive. It keeps both my hands and my mind active.
Kerry is a much loved member of the Madeit Collective, posting regularly in our Facebook Group ~ The Ultimate Artisan Gift Destination ~ and sharing her new creations as they are released. If you haven't connected with KezKidz Crochet already, make sure you join our FB Group and say hi!
