Before entering the incredible world of handmade arts and crafts, I had no idea what polymer clay was and why it’s so amazing!
Now that we have the reticular activating system activated, trust me, this is going to start popping up everywhere in your periphery.
What is Polymer Clay?
Wikipedia states:
Polymer clay is a type of hardenable modeling clay based on the polymer polyvinyl chloride (PVC). It typically contains no clay minerals, but like mineral clay, a liquid is added to dry particles until it achieves gel-like working properties.
You have no doubt seen hundreds of creations made from polymer clay but possibly not connected the dots.
Is Polymer Clay the Same as Resin?
Often resin and polymer clay can get mixed up, yet they are very different mediums. Resin is poured, while polymer clay is modelled by hand. Polymer clay also has a very distinct matte finish (if no gloss finish is applied), whereas resin tends to have simpler shapes with sharp cut edges and a high gloss finish.
How Do You Use Polymer Clay?
Polymer clay remains malleable and flexible until it is cured with heat to set the creation. You can stretch, roll, fold, and shape the polymer clay until you reach the desired form.
Many artists manipulate the clay purely by hand, while others use tools such as a pasta-making machine to achieve a thin, sheet-like finish.
What Can You Make Out of Polymer Clay?
The question really should be, how far can your imagination stretch? Yes, pun intended.
