Yayoi Kusama hand made crochet doll.A tribute to the Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama she can be easily recognised by her obsession with dots which she paints everywhere The doll is made with cotton yarn. It would be an ideal gift for an admirer of this famous artist. Please note price is for the doll only accessories are not included Yayoi Kusama was born in Japan in 1929 (yes! She is 93!) and loved painting since childhood, something her parents did not approve. After trying traditional Japanese painting, in 1957, she moved to New York, where she became part of the Pop Art and Conceptual Art movements, presenting her works alongside Andy Warhol and Claes Oldenburg, among others. She can be easily recognized by her obsession with dots, which she paints everywhere, from canvases, to furniture, to huge pumpkins and entire rooms. For her, dots represent humanity. Each one of us is a dot. And we live among thousands of other dots. Connected, side by side, together. “A polka-dot has the form of the sun, which is a symbol of the energy of the whole world and our living life, and also the form of the moon, which is calm. Round, soft, colourful, senseless and unknowing. Polka-dots can't stay alone; like the communicative life of people, two or three polka-dots become movement... Polka-dots are a way to infinity,” she explains. Sounds interesting, right?
