This beautiful 16” Emu drum began with a hoop and a piece of carefully prepared deer hide. From there, the real work began…
The hide was cut, prepared, stretched and laced by hand, then left through hours of drying and adjusting until she began to take her beautiful shape. Every part of the process takes patience — watching the hide tighten, feeling the changes as it dries and making sure everything comes together as it should.
Her back has been hand woven with sinew, including a hand-crafted hold area made to sit comfortably in your hands while you play.
And while she is made from deer hide, this drum also carries the spirit of Emu with her bringing that beautiful connection, symbolism and energy into her journey. Made in the Lower South East of South Australia by the Gum trees and a Big Blue Lake.
