Hand built, stoneware vessel.
Unearthed 1
The vessel’s silhouette mimics an ancient relic recovered from the soil. Its surface is heavily weathered, featuring a distressed landscape that suggests centuries of exposure to the elements.
I used iron and manganese oxides to mimic the natural weathering of stone, making the vessel look like it’s been buried for centuries rather than fired in a kiln.
I have created molds first from Australian native flowers, which have then been added to the surface to add extra texture and interest.
I have also glazed the interior of the vessel in a rich red, high fire glaze which looks almost metallic at the rim.
