Description
Originally made as a project for a Costume course this has been sewn to the highest standards for a theatrical costume. It is based on a 1770s dress in the V&A (Victoria & Albert museum, London).
The Boned Bodice laces up the back and is attached to the Over-Skirt which is cartridge pleated (by hand) and has a slight train. The Under-Skirt is a seperate piece. You will also get the shoes (dyed & decorated to match) and the Choker.
The main fabric of the Bodice and Over-Skirt is a heavy cotton damask - both parts are fully backed with 100% cotton fabric. The Under-Skirt front is plain sage green - the back, which is hidden by the over-skirt - is light weight lining fabric.
All has been profusely decorated:
there are 'Butterflies' draped from electric blue fabric
there are pleated ruffles
there are gathered ruffles in serpentine curls on the Over-Skirt
there are gathered ruffles at the hem of the Under-Skirt
there is lovely cream coloured lace at the neckline and sleeves (those lace ruffles under the sleeve frills were known as 'engageantes').
There are also sequins, metallic ribbon, diamanté's, and (in imitation of the 'fly braid' so fashionable in the 1770s) fancy knitting yarn.
The shoes are fabric and they lace up (which is not historically correct) - I dyed the shoes to match the costume and made large rosettes on brooch backs. The shoes need to be re-heeled.
Size:
Bust: 82cm to 87cm (it laces up and there is an underlap)
Waist: 67cm
best on someone about 5' 8" - 172cm (in the photos, my model is 5'5" and the skirts are a little long)
Shoes are Australian size 8 but a narrow fit - my size 7.5 feet feel fine in them.
NOTE: Postage will be expensive due to the weight & bulk of all that fabric! Pick up can be arranged from Sydney CBD or inner West.
