My first black and white octopus was made for my new Grandson. My daughter was looking for a new-born, baby-safe hanging or play toy in contrast colours as he starts to gain focus in the first 3 months. He loves it and his first giggles and chatter were with “Ollie”.
Crochet octopus are widely used for babies, especially in NICU, as the tentacles provide comfort because they resemble the umbilical cord.
The cute face features are sewn, making this safe for babies of any age. I would suggest removing the hanging cord if you are moving from the hanging to the playing stage, to avoid fingers getting tangled (just snip it off just above the head).
There may be slight variations in the product you receive from the images shown. Everything is handmade by me in my home in Adelaide.
This item is made with acrylic yarn and filled with Polyfilla, making it fully washable on a gentle cycle. I wouldn’t recommend tumble drying.
Ollie is approx. 20cm high and 6cm wide, with an additional 10cm loop to hang. The tentacles are approx. 12 cm unstretched or 20cm stretched.
If you have any special requests, please get in touch. I offer the following variations:
- Colours of your choosing
- 100% cotton yarn (as recommended by hospitals for NICU babies)
- Plush yarn which is adorably soft and squishy
