Hi I'm Christine, the maker behind Yarn About Yarn.
I'm a weaver based in the beautiful Northern Rivers area of New South Wales, where the natural landscape provides endless inspiration.
- I started weaving in 2009, using frame and rigid heddle looms.
- I then discovered Saori weaving and was immediately drawn to this traditional Japanese technique that encourages freedom, creativity and individuality.
-
Over the years I have grown my collection of looms, but the Saori loom has remained my favourite.
- The freeform weaving philosophy of Saori, where imperfection and spontaneity are celebrated, aligns perfectly with my creative approach.
Materials and Inspiration
- As well as the external environment, my work is deeply influenced by the vast yarn stash I've accumulated over many years.
- I'm also drawn to the colours and unique textures of materials I source from op shops and repurposed yarns.
- These materials come together in my weaving to create one-of-kind scarves, wall hangings and garments.
What Can You Expect From Yarn About Yarn
- My range is always expanding as I experiment with new techniques.
- Every woven piece I make is an expression of my artistic journey and a celebration of the tactile world around me.
- I believe in the beauty of slow fashion, focusing on creating unique handmade items for you and your home, or as gifts for friends and family.
- I hope my creations bring as much joy to you as they do to me while I make them.
