Rachel

I'm a working mum from Melbourne who somehow ended up falling in love with the very slow art of French beading. Most evenings, after work is done and the house is finally quiet, you'll find me sitting with thousands of tiny beads scattered around me, working on petals one bead at a time. A single flower can take many hours to make, and some of my larger pieces take several days before they're finished.

I started beading because I needed something that felt real. So much of life now happens through screens, automation, and AI. While I appreciate the convenience, I found myself craving a creative outlet that couldn't be rushed or outsourced. There's something deeply satisfying about making something with my own hands and watching a flower slowly come to life bead by bead.

Every piece in The Unreal Garden is handmade by me at home, not mass-produced and not made in a factory. When you buy one of my flowers, you're supporting a local Australian maker, a small family, and a craft that values patience, skill, and attention to detail. Thank you for being here and for appreciating the beauty of something made slowly.

A few things to know about my work

Each flower is handmade using glass seed beads, so slight variations in colour, shading, and shape are part of what makes every piece unique. Even beads from the same colour batch can have subtle differences, which gives the finished flowers a more natural and organic look.

To keep shipping costs reasonable and ensure your flowers arrive safely, most pieces are carefully packed in a flat box. The wire stems, leaves, and petals are designed to be gently adjusted, so you may need to spend a minute or two reshaping your flower when it arrives. Don't worry — this is completely normal and allows me to create delicate pieces that travel well while still maintaining their beauty and character.

As each item is handmade, tiny imperfections and variations are not flaws but part of the charm of owning a one-of-a-kind piece made by hand rather than by machine.

We offer refunds for faulty items in line with Australian Consumer Law. Please contact us within 7 days of receiving your order.

As each piece is handmade, we do not accept returns or offer refunds for change of mind purchases.

If your item arrives significantly damaged during transit, please contact us within 7 days of delivery. We will work with you to find a fair solution, which may include a replacement, repair, or refund where appropriate.

Please note that minor reshaping of petals, leaves, and stems after shipping is normal. Our flowers are carefully packed for safe travel, and the flexible wire components are designed to be gently adjusted on arrival. Slight variations in shape, colour, and bead placement are also part of the handmade nature of each piece and are not considered faults.

If you have any questions before purchasing, please feel free to get in touch.
