🧡 I make upcycled bags, quilts and homewares.
🧡 For people who want things to last – pieces that cant be mass-produced or easily replaced. People who long for the quiet beauty of the past to live with them, in their home and the bags they carry each day.
🧡 Because I believe we reach too quickly for the new. While many makers choose materials only for how they look in the moment, I look for the history fabric already holds, the time it represents and the chance it gives us to slow down and wonder. The past still has so much to offer if we are willing to stop, look and appreciate it.
I was raised not to waste a thing. We didn’t have a lot of money, so hand-me-downs, op-shop finds, and the occasional treasure pulled from the tip were just part of life. We found uses for almost everything and that instinct never left me. I still can’t bear seeing good things go to waste, and I still look for ways to give them another life. That’s why I make what I make.
Most of my bags begin with upcycled denim — old jeans, mostly — for its toughness, honest character and substantial texture. I then add pieces of vintage fabric (old curtains, sheets and prints that stop me in my tracks) for colour and story. Each bag is lined with more vintage cloth and made to be as practical as it is pretty. The quilts follow the same spirit: a soft wool blanket as the backing and a structured top pieced from cotton vintage fabrics. Everything is slow-made, one piece at a time, in my Western Australian studio.
I’m heavily influenced by the past. I love old black-and-white photographs and the quiet simplicity they capture. I used to live in an old house that still brings back memories of being a carefree, happy kid. Those memories, and the objects that carry them, matter to me. I believe we reach too quickly for whatever is new. The past still has so much to offer if we’re willing to stop, look and appreciate it.
What I notice is that a lot of makers choose materials simply because they look good in the moment. I understand the pull of pretty fabric, but I’m after something deeper — the history a piece of cloth already holds, the time it represents, the chance to slow down and wonder. In a world that moves too fast, the past gives us permission to linger.
I make these treasured pieces for people who feel the same way. People who want things that last, that can’t be mass-produced or easily replaced. People who want the beauty and quiet of the past to live with them — in their homes, and in the bags they carry every day.
