My name is Adam Leadbetter, and I have been making knives for over a decade. My passion for knives began when I was just five years old, fascinated by their function, purpose, and design. In my early twenties, I made my very first knife from an old file using only basic hand tools — and from that moment, I was hooked.
Today, with years of experience and many more tools in the workshop, I’ve lost count of how many knives I’ve created. What has never changed is my commitment to quality and continuous improvement. My passion drives me to constantly refine my craft and never settle for average.
Over the past ten years, I’ve built knives for collectors, outdoorsmen, and anyone seeking a high-quality, one-of-a-kind blade. I specialise primarily in fixed-blade knives, crafted from high-carbon and stainless tool steels including O1, 1084, 1095, W1/W2, 5160, 52100, and 440C. I’m always exploring new steel types and materials to continue pushing the boundaries of my work.
When it comes to handles, I use a wide range of Australian and exotic hardwoods, alongside modern materials such as carbon fibre, G10, and Micarta. Every knife is carefully designed to be both functional and visually striking.
Knife making has also allowed me to develop a broad range of traditional skills, including blacksmithing, steel fabrication, woodworking, and of course leather craft. Every sheath I create is handmade using 3.5mm vegetable-tanned leather. I carve stamp, and stitch each sheath by hand, ensuring every piece matches the quality and individuality of the knife it carries.
For those wanting something even more distinctive, I also create custom sheaths featuring exotic leather inlays such as crocodile, emu, snake, and fish leather. In addition to traditional leather sheaths, I also craft timber and Kydex sheaths to suit different styles and purposes. Just like my knives, I put the same level of passion and craftsmanship into every sheath I make.
Whether you’re searching for a unique gift, a reliable outdoor tool, or a custom handmade piece to treasure for years to come, Leadbetter Blades offers craftsmanship, quality, and individuality in every creation.
