Grain & Gears began with a request from my daughter.
She wanted a clock inspired by her favourite sci-fi show. I wanted to make her something she'd never find in a shop. So I did.
After 30 years as a professional vehicle spray painter, precision and surface finish aren't just skills — they're instincts. Wood has always been my parallel passion. That first clock brought both worlds together in a way I hadn't expected.
She loved it. So did everyone who saw it.
Every clock in the Grain & Gears collection is cut, finished and assembled by hand in Australia from solid Tasmanian oak. The same discipline that spent three decades achieving perfect surface finish now goes into every coat of varnish, every fitted hand, every piece of timber selected for its grain.
Each design has its own name and character — from the bold contrast of Division and Eclipse, to the quiet precision of Meridian, to the coastal warmth of Horizon. No two clocks are identical. The timber makes sure of that.
No two clocks are identical. That's not a disclaimer — it's the point.

About Our Clocks
Each clock in the Grain & Gears collection is designed and named individually — from the bold contrast of Eclipse and Division to the quiet precision of Meridian. Every design is made from the same solid Tasmanian oak, finished by hand with the same care and attention to detail.
Movement
All clocks are fitted with an American-made Takane quartz movement with a silent sweep mechanism — no ticking. Suitable for bedrooms, nurseries, offices and any space where quiet matters. Requires 1 x AA battery, not included.
Sizing
Most designs are available in 30cm and 40cm diameter with a solid 17mm thick profile. If you're unsure which size suits your space, a 40cm clock works well as a focal point in living rooms and hallways, while 30cm suits bedrooms, offices and smaller walls.
Packaging
Every clock is carefully packaged to ensure it arrives safely. We use protective wrapping and sturdy boxes suited to the size of your clock.
Custom Orders
Have something specific in mind? We're open to discussing custom sizing or finishes. Get in touch before placing your order and we'll do our best to accommodate your request.
Our Promise
Every Grain & Gears clock is individually handcrafted in Australia from solid Tasmanian oak. We take pride in the quality of every piece we make and want you to love what you receive.
Handmade & Natural Timber
All clocks are handmade to order. Because timber is a natural material, grain patterns, colour tones and subtle variations will differ from the photos shown. These variations are not imperfections — they are what makes each clock uniquely yours.
Processing & Shipping
Orders are processed and dispatched within 3–5 business days. Standard Australia Post delivery applies once dispatched. Express Post is available at checkout for faster delivery. All orders are sent with tracking — you will receive your tracking number once your order has been dispatched.
Returns
We accept returns within 14 days of delivery for items that arrive damaged or faulty. Please contact us within 14 days with clear photos of the damage and we will make it right — either with a replacement or full refund including return shipping costs.
Due to the handmade and natural timber nature of our products, change of mind returns are not accepted. Please read the listing description carefully before purchasing, paying particular attention to our notes on timber variation.
