Tell us about your creations and your handmade process.
At folly & form, I create small-batch handmade ceramics inspired by the Western Australian landscape, everyday rituals, and a touch of whimsy. Every piece is wheel-thrown or hand-built by me, then finished with carefully layered glazes that celebrate movement, texture, and the beauty of perfectly imperfect handmade work.
I work from a shared community studio, reclaim as much clay as possible, and fire in a community kiln. From functional mugs, bowls, and butter bells to playful creatures and one-of-a-kind sculptural pieces, each item is made slowly, individually, and designed to bring a little happiness to everyday life.
Tell us a bit about your journey to becoming a handmade artist.
I returned to clay in 2025 after more than 30 years away from the wheel. What started as a way to reconnect with a childhood passion quickly became something much bigger.
Ceramics have given me space to slow down, create, and find moments of calm through some of life's most challenging seasons.
Today, folly & form is my way of sharing that joy with others, through thoughtfully handmade pieces that are designed to be used, loved, and bring happiness to everyday rituals.
What is your inspiration or where do you find inspiration?
Western Australia and travels back home is my biggest inspiration, from rugged coastlines and weathered rock formations to earthy bushland and the changing colours of the ocean. I also find inspiration in everyday rituals, old pottery, and the joy of creating pieces that become part of someone's daily life. My whimsical creatures are often born from leftover clay, proving that nothing needs to go to waste.
Where did you learn your craft?
I first learnt pottery as a child in the UK, growing up in my dad's pottery workshop. Clay was always part of life. After more than 30 years, I returned to the wheel in 2025 and rediscovered a lifelong love of making.
Since then, I've continued learning through community studios, workshops, endless glaze testing, and embracing the lessons that come with every kiln opening.
Why is handmade artistry so important to you?
Handmade artistry matters to me because it celebrates people over perfection. We live in a world where so much is made to be identical, but I love that every handmade piece has its own character. I hope my work encourages people to slow down, appreciate craftsmanship, and find joy in the everyday.
