TO KAIA - Original Two And Fro Design.
Introducing 'ToKaia' - The Two And Fro design inspired by the
Culture of the Tolai people featuring the shell money 'tabu' surrounding the Tubuan placed on the volcanic shores of Rabaul.
This design is named 'To Kaia'.
'Kaia' means volcano in Kuanua, the main language spoken in ENB.
Coupled with 'To' makes reference to male name.
'Ia' for female names.
The grey/granite/pearly background hand cut for the base represents the volcanic shores in Simpson Harbour, Rabaul. A beautiful spot with several active volcanoes including Mt Tavurvur and Mt Vulcan.
The mysterious (yet smiley) masked Tubuan is placed on the volcanic shore, with his firey eyes representing PNG's most famous Tubuan Secret Men's Society and and the Baining people known for their fire dance. The Tubuan society is still practised today.
They make appearances at funeral rituals and continue their mens only duties in private sacred areas for initiating young men. What goes on is extraordinarly secret and the teachings are not shared with woman folk.
So that's all I can say.
The shell money 'Tabu' that still holds value in these parts and is used for different ceremonies, feasts and
some cases in return for goods/services.
Wear culture, it is part of your identity #twoandfrovibe
