Once upon a time, in a garden of soft ivory and sage-blue, a single rosebud began to bloom.
There's a particular kind of gift that gets remembered — the one still being held years from now, the one someone holds and says, smiling, "my grandmother/godmother gave this to me."

I'd had this rosebud arrangement on my list to make for a while — the little medallion at the centre, the rosebud-and-leaf detail scattered through the rounds — and the 150th Ekka gave me as good a reason as any to finally sit down and make it happen. There's only one of these. Worked from the centre outward in concentric rounds, it builds from a small crocheted rosebud medallion at its heart through bands of open lace and gentle shell-stitch scallops, every ring finished with tiny crocheted rosebuds and leaves. Soft ivory, banded through with dusty sage-blue — a palette chosen to still feel right in ten years, not just for this year's nursery.
