"Oz Rehearsals" is an inspiring original artwork, borne from an afternoon drama club rehearsal for The Wizard of Oz. This was very early in rehearsals, so things were still wonderfully messy. By opening night, of course, it was a polished performance.
My sketchbook captured this moment.
✏️ Pencil sketch.
🖊️ Ink outline.
🎨 Add colour.
✏️ Add contour.
That's my process — the little steps that help an idea come to life.
Created in 1979, this artwork draws on a personal childhood memory of watching the high school drama club at work. I remember is the atmosphere. The gym. The laughter. Stumbling over lines. Missing marks. The sheer fun of watching a performance slowly take shape.
