With holes big enough for all size birds, drainage holes in the base and cord to hang from a tree branch, this holder not only is practical, but will add a lovely accent to your garden.

This bird nest material holder could also be used as a bird feeder. (Either use a solid native seed block inside, or cover the drainage holes and use loose seed.)

With a native garden filled with nesting birds, I found my felting wool scraps that I threw out into the garden, were making their way into nests that I would find later in the year when nesting time was over.

As ceramics is one of my artistic pursuits, I thought I would create a hard wearing, long lasting nest material holder to hold my wooly scraps.

I have included photos of a few of the nests I have collected over the last year or so.

Stoneware or midfire clay

SIZE - total diameter 15cm

Height - approx 5 - 7cm

Nylon hanging rope - approx 55cm

Included is a small bag of my wool, which will be a mix of coloured (non- toxic, Australian made dyes) and undyed alpaca wool and Leicester Wool. Enough to fill the nest material holder 2 or three times.

Please note that only natural fibres from sheep, alpacas, dogs, cats, horses are advisable for nesting materials. Do not use string of any kind as this can get tangled in the babies legs.
