Maple box, handmade with hinged straw marquetry lid.
I have always enjoyed making little wooden boxes but I am now adorning the lids with straw which is quite a new craft in Australia. The silica in the straw reflects the light and by applying the straw in varying angles it allows the box to shimmer and shine when the light catches it or just by walking past it.

The silica in the straw reflects the light and by applying the straw in varying angles it allows the box to shimmer and shine when the light catches it or just by walking past it.
The box itself is made from Maple with Macassar Ebony for the inside bottom, Teak inside top and Wenge outside bottom. There is a half circle cut out to assist with opening the lid.
This box is a perfect size for a mantelpiece, coffee table or bedside tables. Big enough to be practical, small enough to be a decorative piece in your home.
